Maurits Luth, who pastors a Baptist Church in Kampen, the Netherlands, shares how Alpha is helping to grow his congregation in numbers and in faith.
“Reflecting on how Jesus related to people, how He created a space where everyone could ask questions, where life was shared and meals were shared, we could easily connect that to the Alpha we were already running in our church,” says Maurits. “We asked two groups from our congregation to go out into their own villages and invite people to Alpha. We saw that the people who stepped out in faith in their villages also grew in their own faith.
“Now, every other Sunday, those two groups also gather together and there’s room for meaningful encounters and a good lunch. Eating together after a service has become much more common there. There’s also room to pray together, to pray openly and out loud. In this way, through Alpha, a culture is emerging where sharing life together feels much more natural.”
